Handel House has appointed acclaimed early music group The Burney Players as its Ensemble-in-Residence for 2007-08. This exciting appointment will involve The Burney Players giving regular performances throughout the year as well as working closely with our Composer-in-Residence on education and family events.

The Burney Players formed in 1999 whilst studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and became the first period instrument ensemble to be awarded a fellowship there. They have performed and broadcast across Europe to critical acclaim and won several awards including the Zofia Rayzacher Prize (Poland), The Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award (UK/Germany) as well as being prize-winners in the 2002 Van Wassenaer Competition (Netherlands). The Burney Players take their name from Dr Charles Burney - the eighteenth-century musician, traveller and diarist - and like to illustrate their performances with readings and anecdotes. The four members of The Burney Players are Ian Wilson (recorders), Harriet Wiltshire (cello), Kasia Tomczak (harpsichord) and Nadja Zwiener (violin).
